Description
All the festive, tangy flavor of a spicy margarita without the tequila or the sugar. Ready in minutes and perfect for happy hour.
Ingredients
For the Jalapeño Simple Syrup
- 4 tablespoons water
- 4 tablespoons allulose (or monk fruit/erythritol blend like Lakanto)
- 1 fresh jalapeño, thinly sliced, seeds in
For the Mocktail
- 4 tablespoons fresh lime juice (about 2 limes)
- 1 tablespoon fresh orange juice
- 1 tablespoon jalapeño simple syrup
- 3/4 cup sparkling water (plain or lime flavored like Spindrift)
- 1 tablespoon chile lime seasoning for the rim (Tajín or Siete Chile Lime Seasoning)
- Lime wheel and fresh jalapeño slice to garnish
Instructions
- Make the jalapeño simple syrup. Combine water and sweetener in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir until fully dissolved and the mixture goes clear, about 2 to 3 minutes. No need to boil. Remove from heat, add the sliced jalapeño, and steep for 15 minutes. If you want more heat, steep another 5 minutes. Strain and cool completely. Store in a jar in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
- Rim the glass. Run a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks glass. Dip into chile lime seasoning to coat. Set aside.
- Build the drink. Fill the glass with ice. Add lime juice, orange juice, and jalapeño simple syrup. Stir gently to combine.
- Top and garnish. Pour sparkling water slowly down the side of the glass to help maintain the bubbles. Garnish with a lime wheel and jalapeño slice. Serve immediately.
Notes
If using a monk fruit/erythritol blend, your syrup may crystallize when chilled. Simply warm it gently on the stove to dissolve before using. For a crystal-free syrup that stays smooth in the fridge, allulose / monkfruit is the better choice.
